A $5 Billion Global Apparel Corporation set up Business, Retail and Sourcing Operations in India in the early nineties when organised retail in India was in its infancy and relevant talent was rare.

The expat CEO wasn’t familiar with India and it was of great importance to him to assemble the right leadership team. The initial instinct was to hire from within the sector for domain knowledge though better talent in terms of overall leadership profile existed in other more mature sectors. Also, for talent to move sectors those days was rare and attracting them would be a key challenge.
